Eco Record
Born from a collaboration with an anonymous artist and sound engineer, this music record is an interdisciplinary project designed to give nature a voice during our events. The music tells a story of mass turtle nesting and is engineered from the natural sounds of the Chacocente Wild Refuge, remixed with house and melodic beats.
Casa Congo worked with a Dutch supplier to manufacture 10 inch records with a sustainable injection molding process, which results in 100% recycled materials and up to 60% energy savings compared to a traditional vinyl record. In Christmas 2021, 100 records were made and sold to raise funds for Casa Congo's ocean conservation programs.
Playa Chacocente is 1 of the 7 beaches in the world where, once a month, thousands of turtles come and lay their eggs. This natural phenomenon, called “arribada”, is threatened by egg poachers who steal the eggs and sell them. This interdisciplinary sound tells the story of the arribadas from the lens of our Brigada Ecologica (environmental youth group) who collaborates with MARENA (Nicaraguan ministry of environment) to protect the turtles by conducting beach patrols, scientific research, management of turtle nurseries and beach cleanups.
This record was produced to support our efforts and increase awareness of our educational programs.
